Remember that song from the Police many years ago? Well, I have an interesting read for you today that you will find quite strange. My wife sent this to me today and it brought back some memories from several years ago that I haven’t thought about in a while… I have also provide an MP3 file at the end of this post with my comments as well as some strange stories of my own…

My wife was on a message board and read this story that one of the girls on the board wrote in the first person. I found it interesting and at the same time it reminded me of some situations I have experienced…. Don’t forget to listen to my MP3 Audio File at the end… I have not changed a word, so it is posted as I received it…

About ummm…1989, I lived for a short while in Hot Springs, and was single, only one child he was like 10. We were moving, driving back to california in a beat up car with very little money. I was never one to stop and help people.. but one late afternoon on the second day of the trip in texas I did.. something made me pull over, and it was a very nice, well dressed man in a sedan type vehicle, remember this is PRE cell phones.. I ended up giving him a ride to the next exit, I was a bit scared, but he seemed harmless, and he was so grateful to me. He chatted and was a road salesman and had just found out his wife had been rushed to the hospital back in wisconsin, and he was trying to hurry home to her, and luck of luck his car breaks down. I drop him off.. and we part ways.. He says to me.. always help others, because some day you may need help… sure.. ok..

SOOO…. I live a life.. marry my current dh.. we are living in california, and we move to a different part of arkansas. We are driving.. and have a new truck.. but the towing of the tralier with furniture.. or something ended up overheating our brand NEW truck.. and we are stalled on the hwy in New Mexico.. ( again pre cell phone age) we have been on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere for almost 4 hours.. FINALLY.. finally… a guy stops.. a well dressed man, in a sedan.. at first.. I dont think anything.. he says he can take a look and he always carrys several gallons of water so we can cool the engine down. He tinkers with the truck.. and it starts up.. seems fine, we are just thanking him over and over and over again.. cant quite figure out how he fixed the truck but boy are we lucky.. as I stand there looking at him.. I am awestruck.. I say.. wait a minute.. wait a minute.. I say.. is your wifes name Betty??? (i remember the ill wifes name) yes.. do you know me? I recall my story of ten years earlier.. he scratches his head.. it sure could have been me.. I travel this route all the time.. and so we say.. wow.. small world!!! And off he goes..

Now.. thats not even the wtf moment yet….
While we are getting back in the truck, I notice a business card that must have fallen out of his pants, or jacket, and so I save it put it in my wallet.
A few weeks later, I come across this card, and think.. you know.. I am going to call him.. and tell him thank you.. and whatever magic he did.. he fixed our truck and we were so grateful! So I call the number… a lady answers, I say hi, is this mrs xxxx.. she says yes.. so I explain.. and she says.. you mean a couple of years ago? I say.. no.. this was in june this year (its not july of the same year) she says.. honey.. there must be some mistake.. my husband died 3 years ago!!! I stuttered.. and stumbled.. I confirmed what he looked like.. his business card.. where he was driving.. the first time.. (when I helped him) and explained like 3 times.. how he helped my husband and I last month.. She is so nice.. so sweet.. says.. my husband was a man that believed in helping others.. and I could just imagine him stopping to help you, he always was that way, even when he worked. I said to her again.. you are telling me, that your husband passed away THREE years ago? Yes.. correct. And he does not have a son, or brother that looks much like him? No.. we never had children, and his brother died when they were teenagers.. so.. I say thank you.. and hang up the phone.. and sit there staring at this card.. thinking WTF???

(post note: during this conversation, we did talk about his looks, and the car he drove, so no way was this another salesman that just had his card, I thought that was likely what the deal was at first.. but then.. his car???
